Getting married in Hawaii? You have to read this:
Let me tell you about the most beautiful place on earth. I’ve been lucky enough to be there several times in my life, some for weddings, once for pleasure. I can honestly say with every ounce of my soul that it is the best place I’ve ever been to in my life. I wouldn’t even know where to start when describing how amazing it is, but if I had to, it would look something like this:
You will be surrounded by the best people you’ve never met
This is something I learned very quickly upon my first trip to Hawaii. I was photographing a wedding of a bride from Nova Scotia and she was not the most organized bride I’ve ever worked with. That’s ok, I can work with unorganized, it’s kind of part of the job sometimes. As a destination wedding photographer I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some of the most amazing places on the globe. So this bride actually forgot her wedding dress at home! The worst part is, none of this came to light until the morning of the wedding in Hawaii! Needless to say, panic ensued. On a grand scale.
They lept into action to take care of her problem. No questions asked.
It didn’t take long for the Hilo Vacation Rental staff to pick up on something being amiss, and wow, did they ever spring into action! Within 3 hours they had 5 different styles of dresses from local bridal boutiques (all in her size, I might add) that she was able to choose from. They didn’t mark up the price, in fact, they didn’t even make her pay for the dress she ended up choosing until a day after the wedding. This is just one example of the goodness and kindness nested within the people who call Hawaii home. My heart melted from the kindness.
The landscapes are out of a magazine
I mean that. Every direction you look it seems as if you are in a magazine, or at least looking at one. I’ve always been fascinated with sunsets. Truthfully, sunsets are what got me into travel photography in the first place. It’s the way the sky can suddenly turn the most striking hues of red, orange and blue almost instantly. Often, a sunset will fizzle out and the amount of time I spent prepping for this shot, the hours on the trail and the moments leading up to it appear to be for naught. Then I look around and realize where I am and what I am doing and am still blown away by it all. To experience this in Hawaii is next level. It wasn’t as if any of the sunsets there actually fizzled out. It’s more like every single sunset was an epiphany. A cacophony of colour lit up the sky and there came a point I had all the photos I wanted or needed for the trip. I was happy to just sit back on rock at one of the thousands of amazing beaches and just take it all in.
I’ve always had great experiences with lodging
This is what I tell anyone who is interested in travelling, or travel photography. If you want a great experience, you need great lodgings. When we travel we are active. We spend so much time taking in the sites we need a beautiful, comfortable place to unwind. I’ve always had an easy time finding amazing vacation rentals in Hilo and you will to. Just make sure you go with what’s recommended. After All, you’ve come this far, shouldn’t you enjoy it?
