How many of us have been stuck in a hotel?
I know I’ve spent my fair share of time in them. They can be convenient and fair priced, and typically you know what you are getting into when you book one. I had been a hotel “super plus rewards member” and I still am, although I won’t be collecting as many points as I used to.
And then there was a vacation rental.
I was down in New Orleans in April (it’s cold in Canada, we need to get away too!) and the people I was travelling with suggested we stay in a vacation rental. I wasn’t totally sure what they meant so a lengthy discussion transpired about what is and what is not a vacation rental. The thing was, I was all for the hotel. I was alone though, in a group of five travelling adventure tourism writers I was the lone minority. Vacation rental it is.
Why I am just hearing about these?
It. Was. Awesome. I had my own private bedroom (a huge plus when splitting the cost – no more sharing rooms) as well as a private bathroom. There was a beautiful kitchen for us to cook in and we ended up saving a ton of money by cooking for ourselves versus eating out every meal.
Of course, it had it’s drawbacks;
Yes, I’m talking about a pool. How was I supposed to get any work done when there was this beautiful blue pool under the hot New Orleans sun? Did I mention laundry facilities as well? I didn’t have to drag all of my clothing to the laundromat – I could do it right there.
It changed the way I travel
I’ll be the first one to suggest vacation rentals now. And I’ll do it with a smile on my face. If you are in or around the French Quarter coming up you got to check out The Factors Row vacation rental, it has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, and fitness center, and it’s located a short 3-block walk from the famous French Quarter. Nightly rates start at $109! It’s the best New Orleans vacation rental around!
